HOMESHARE

Pilot projects in Oxfordshire and West Sussex

NAAPS gained Department of Health funding for an Homeshare Project with pilot programmes based in Chichester, West Sussex, and Abingdon, Oxfordshire.  Homeshare works on the simple premise that a person with suitable accommodation would like someone to share their home.  No money usually changes hands; the Homesharer lives rent free with the Householder and provides about 10 hours of support per week.  If you want to know more about the Homeshare Programme generally, please contact Angela Catley on angela@naaps.org.uk.  If you are interested in applying for Homeshare in Oxfordshire or West Sussex then contact either Vicky Harwood on  victoria.harwood@oxfordshire.gov.uk or Dawn.Blake on dawn.blake@westsussex.gov.uk.

Small Community Services Project

Launch of the NAAPS Micromarkets Practical Guide

The Department of Health funded a three-year NAAPS project to test a business model designed to support and stimulate the development of a range of micro care and support services in order to provide real choice for people that need care or support to live the lives that they choose as part of their local community. The project has successfully demonstrated the effectiveness of this local support agency approach and learning from the first phase has been brought together in a detailed Practical Guide for local authorities and other organisations interested in stimulating and supporting micro enterprise in their area. This forms part of the Personalisation Toolkit, supporting councils to transform their social care systems.

The Guide was launched by Phil Hope Minister of State for Care Services and the East Midlands, at an event in London on 6 July.

Care Services Minister Phil Hope said:

“People don’t just want to be passive recipients of care anymore, they want services that fit around their needs and their lives. Small and micro providers have a major role to play in doing this, but councils need to make sure they work with small providers and include them in commissioning plans. This guidance will help them do that.”

The Importance of Small Community Services to Personalisation and a Managed Market

The second phase of the project is focusing on developing and testing a quality mark for micro providers.
